Professor Brodaty has had strong clinical and academic
interests in both dementia and general practice for over twenty years. He was
a founding member of and has had many executive positions in Alzheimer's
Associations at state, national and international levels. Currently he is
the Chairman of Alzheimer's Disease International. He established and heads
a memory disorders clinic, advises on state and federal governments on dementia
and psychogeriatric policy, was a member of the NSW Guardianship Tribunal,
founded and chaired the Australian Consortium of Centres for Clinical Cognitive

caregivers and behavioural disturbances complicating dementia. A brief period
working in general practice stimulated his interest in general practice research,
especially in ways of enhancing the abilities of general practitioners to detect
and manage mental disorders associated with ageing.
