Glucocorticoid therapy in the form of dexamethasone is the treatment of choice for familial hyperaldosteronism type 1 or glucocorticoid remediable aldosteronism (GRA), an autosomal dominant disorder. GRA is not suspected in this patient in the absence of a family history of hypertension, and in the presence of a unilateral adenoma. Prescribing a glucocorticoid will not be appropriate when the underlying etiology for the hypertension is aldosterone excess due to adrenal adenoma.
